The Bacchus Marsh Little Athletic Centre celebrated the end of season on Saturday with their Centre Championships.

The weather definitely put our athletes to the test as they tackled the strong, swirling winds along with freezing temperatures.  The morning session was conducted without interruption, although the black clouds lingered above.  The afternoon session got underway but wasn’t long before the clouds opened, and competition was delayed for a short period.  It wasn’t long before the blue sky appeared enabling us to finalise the remainder of the program.  All athletes and officials must be congratulated on braving the artic weather.  All athletes managed to complete their 5 favourite events, and many were rewarded; with the first 3 placegetters in each event presented with a medal.

After completion of events all athletes and supporters joined together for the Centre presentations.  10-year Little Athletics Victoria service awards were presented to Hayley Spargo and Jesse Bullard.  7-year service awards were presented to Keira Bresnan, Tansy Seymour, Summer Brigham, Lachlan Goodman, Kira Watts, Ava Conroy, Tyrah Doyle, Darcy Drew, Murphy Harrington, Caitlin Mai, Eliza Schembri, Matilda Schembri, Kira Watts.  Emma Smith, Jade Smith and Nate Sadhai are still waiting on certificate from LAVic.

The Centre awarded Life Membership to Paul Miesen.  Paul has been on the BMLAC Committee for 10 years filling the following roles – Public Relations and Publicity, Registrar, Track & Field Coordinator and most recently Secretary. During this time Paul has also been a Centre Relay Coach, Cross Country Rabbit, coordinated training sessions, assisted with set up and officiated as Chief at Region Track & Field and Relay Championships.
Over the past 18 years Paul has supported his 5 children through Little Aths at Bacchus Marsh and proudly saw each of them Captain our Centre.

A Distinguished Service award was presented to Mick Downes. Mick has been actively involved at the Centre over the past 10 years. Mick was Liaison Officer on the Committee for 2 years. He has set up our weekly competition every week since 2010, as well as setting up our Cross Country courses for the past 5 years.
