This week’s Cross Country meet was held at Bostock Reservoir, Ballan.  This venue is a favourite for our runners as the compete over varying terrain.  The athletes contest a fast downhill start, heading out through the pine planation before returning along the gravel road.  The open age athletes head out into the bushlands where they run a loop before once again heading back towards the finish line.  The long uphill finish tests many runners as they strive for either a top 3 finish or even just a PB.

The Under 7 & 8 athletes were the first event this week as they competed over the 1km distance.  Under 8 athlete Elijah Grero lead from start to finish, while only seconds separated Myah Estlick, Mackenzie Quick and Ruby Westhead who were the next to cross the finish line.  Mackenzie took line honours for the Under 7’s.

The second race for the morning saw the Open age athletes compete over 3km’s.  The Under 13 girls dominated the race as Elise Cook recorded a convincing victory with Danielle Ide in 2nd place and Tyrah Doyle in 3rd.  Zane Rich was the first boy home.

The Under 11 & 12 were the next race on the program. It was great to see William Westhead return to little aths, and in his preferred distance running, thrived over the Cross Country 2km course recording a resounding win.  Oliver Carr was next home while the first girl, Shameka Grero following closely behind.  Samuel White was the first Under 12 athlete to finish, placing 5th overall.

The Under 9 & 10 athletes contested a 1500m course.  Under 10 athletes, Nicholas Ide & Oliver Quick lead the field out to the half way point.  Nick upped the pace on the return home and was able to slowly open a gap on the field.  Under 9 athlete, Deegan Doyle battled hard as he slowly closed in on Oliver.  Meanwhile Imogen Lidgett-Egan lead the way for the girls, while only 2 seconds separated Tanae Grero and Sadies Jones as the crossed the finish line.

The final event for the day saw our Under 6 athletes run the 500 metre distance.  New athlete Imogen Borg was declared the official winner while Lucy Wise improved on her time from last week to finish in 2nd place.
