Our weekly Cross Country meet returned to Caledonian Park, Ballan on Saturday morning. With the Werribee River in full flood due to the recent heavy rainfalls the course was set around the walking trails and up onto higher ground within the park surrounds.
The Under 6 500m event was a very closely contested race with Harry Johansen claiming a one second victory over Imogen Borg.
The Under 7 & 8 athletes contested the 1km course. Harrison Lovett, Lenny Closter and James White were the top 3 placegetters for the Under 7 boys while Mackenzie Quick claimed victory over Iyla Robinson for the girls. In the Under 8 age group Myah Estlick, Mathilda Grant and Gemma Lee took minor placings for the girls while Ryder Clarke was the first boy home with Jordan Moore in 2nd place.
The Under 9 & 10 athletes raced over a 1500m distance. Under 10 athlete, Oliver Quick claimed line honours in a time of 6:31.23 with Patrick Lovett next home and 1st Under 9 athlete.
Sam White took out the win for the combined Under 11/12 2km event. James Burton was 2nd for the Under 12 boys while Kira Watts was first for the girls. Mackenzie Estlick and Oliver Carr claimed wins for the Under 11’s.
Elise Cook, Zane Rich and Grace Mutsaerts all recorded PB’s in the Open Age 3km event.
Next Saturday over 1000 athletes from across the State will compete at the Little Athletics Victoria State Cross Country Championships at Lake Dewar, Myrniong. Bacchus Marsh will be represented by the following 14 athletes – James Burton, Oliver Carr, Elise Cook, Mackenzie Estlick, Shameka Grero, Tanae Grero, Danielle Ide, Nicholas Ide, Patrick Lovett, Solomon Miesen, Oliver Quick, Anna Seymour, Tansy Seymour and Emma Stewart.
