Cross Country was held Caledonian Park, Ballan last Saturday.  Courses were set around the Werribee River, with the older age groups completing a lap of the walking tracks, which included crossing over the river before heading up onto the north side walking track.

Harry Johansen recorded a PB in the Under 6 500m, winning his second consecutive race.

The Under 7 and 8 athletes took advantage of the fast-flat course and got off to a flying start.  After the first 500m loop, the leading pack of Harrison Lovett, Elijah Grero, Lenny Closter and Myah Estlick had opened up a gap over the remainder of the field.  Harrison put the foot down in the second 500 and a flying finish saw him keep his unbeaten record intact.  Lenny Closter ran his best race for the season, recording a massive PB and taking 2nd place.  Elijah Grero finished 3rd overall but claimed the win for the Under 8’s.  Myah Estlick, Under 8 and Under 7 athletes Iyla Robinson and Mackenzie Quick were top 3 placegetters for the girls.

The Open age athletes were the next race up for the day, with athletes completing 2 laps of the 1500m course.  The runners enjoyed the river crossing with some opting to carefully manoeuvrer their way across the rocky riverbed while others where not deterred by the obstacle and ran through the river.   Elise Cook recorded her 5th consecutive win while Danelle Ide, Tansy Seymour and Tyrah Doyle all record PB’s for the event.

The next race saw the Under 11 & 12 athletes compete over a 2km distance, with a lap of the shorter 500m course, finished off the with 1500m loop of Caledonian Park.  Samuel White was the standout performer running a well-paced race which saw him sit back in the pack mid-way through the race before picking up the pace on the way home and finishing in a PB time of 8:34.09mins.  Mackenzie Estlick took the victory for the girls, also with a PB time of 8:48.53mins.

The final race of the day saw the Under 9 & 10 athletes given the option to rerun their race after a mishap with runners not following the course markers.  The rerun saw Oliver Quick claim his first win for the season in a time of 6:30.18 mins.  Deegan Doyle, 2nd overall was declared the Under 9 winner.  Well done to Kaylee McDowell for being the only athlete to correctly complete the initial 1500m course in a new seasons best time.

This week’s Cross Country meet will be held at Myrniong Reserve.
