Cross Country returned to Lake Dewar, Myrniong on Saturday morning. The weather was extremely unkind and with school holidays commencing, unfortunately our numbers were well down.
To ensure the meet ran quickly and to keep our athletes out of the cold, wet conditions, races were condensed into 2 events.
Jax Coulton was not deterred by the cold conditions and tackled the 500m course, crossing the finish line in 2.32 mins. In the 1000m event, Deegan Doyle was the first boy and Under 8 athlete across the line, while Myah Estlick was the first Under 7 athlete and first girl home. It was a tight race in the Under 9/10 1500m event with a sprint finish and only .28 seconds separating Riley Rodgers in 1st place and Oliver Carr in 2nd. Mackenzie Estlick crossed the finish line in 1st place for the girls with Sarah Burton in 2nd place and Anna Seymour taking out the 3rd placegetter. Xavier Goodman and Mitchell Wells continue their friendly rivalry over the 2km distance, with Xavier taking line honours this week. Both boys are benefiting from the close competition, pushing each other all the way and continue to improve each week – well done boys. Only 1 second separated the girls in the end; Tyrah Doyle claiming victory over Tansy Seymour. In the Open age 3km event, Bridget Henthorn notched up another win, while Tamara Henry crossed the line in 2nd place followed by Kirsty Bresnan in 3rd.
Next week’s meet will be held at the Bacchus Marsh Market Gardens track, at the start of the Avenue of Honour. First race will commence at 10.30am.
