The Centre Cross Country finale was held on Saturday morning at Masons Lane Reserve. Family and friends gathered to support our athletes and the perfect conditions saw fantastic numbers in attendance. The theme of the event was Superheros, where athletes dressed up in the hero’s costumes. All races were conducted on a handicap basis, where athletes started off using handicap staggered times calculated from their season results.
The Under 6 event was the first race for the day. Lucy Wise was the front marker closely followed by Imogen Borg off 2 seconds. Harry Johansen was the backmarker with a handicap of 23 seconds. The girls kept the same distance for the entire 500 metres and Lucy Wise crossed the finish line first to win line honours. Harry ran a PB time of 2.33.98 mins and recorded the fastest time.
Next race up for the morning was the Under 7 & 8 athletes. This was the closest race for the day with Lillian Roberts claiming line honours closely followed by Mathilde Grant and next front marker Gemma Lee. Backmarker Myah Estlick recorded the fastest time for the 1km event.
The Under 9 & 10 athletes competed over a 1500m course. Kaylee McDowell ran one of her best races for the season, leading from start to finish. A fantastic performance from Oliver Quick, who opted to run in his Superhero suit, went on to not only record a PB but also the fastest time.
The Under 11 & 12 athletes completed 2 laps of a 1km course. Backmarker Matilda Clarke lead the entire race to record a PB and claim line honours. Samuel White was the fastest athlete for the event crossing the line in 2nd place followed by Ava Cook in the 3rd place.
The Open age athletes competed over 3km’s, completing 3 laps of a 1km course. Once again, our back marker produced a winning performance with Grace Mutsaerts going on to claim line honours. Elise Cook, off a 7.14 minute handicap, ran an exceptional race to finish in 2nd place with Zane Rich next across the finish line.
After all races had concluded athletes, family and friends gathered for the Cross Country season presentations.
