BMLAC Multi Event - Saturday 15th November

Club Relay Challenge Day this Saturday

18/10/14  BMLAC Meet - Bring A Friend Day

This week's meet was our Centre 'Bring a Friend Day', where registered athletes were invited to bring along a friend to try out at little aths. Hopefully our friends had such a great time, they will return in the coming weeks and become members of BMLAC.

Next Saturday is our Club Relay Challenge Day.  Clubs will make up teams in the Junior (Under 6-8), Intermediate (Under 9-12) and Senior (Under 13-16) to compete against teams from each of the 4 Clubs (Boomerangs, Blues, Dolphins & Eagles).

All registered athletes will be put into teams and should have a least 2 runs (more if required) on the day.

The aim of the day is to ensure that athletes become familiar with participating as part of a team and correct relay techniques.

We will also be running a Parents race. The kids loved seeing mum and dad out their running last year.  Please let your team manager know if you are available.

Parents will be required to guide athletes to the correct change over areas and we will also be looking for parents experienced with relays to nominate to be change over judges (more to ensure the correct age groups and heats are on the track).
Junior athletes will wear stickers on their Club shirt indicating their age-group and heat.

A reminder that catch up races will also be held on this day for the Girls U12 200m, Girls U7 200m, Boys U10 100m.

 12/10/14  2014/15 Official Opening

This weekend we welcomed Life Members, Distinguished Service Members and the Moorabool Council Mayor, Paul Tatchell to attend the Official Opening of the 2014/15 season.  President, Maria Downes welcomed guests, members and families before official proceedings took place.

The 2014/15 Centre Captains were announced and the Mayor presented Hayden Thompson (Eagles) and Anna-Marie Denton (Boomerangs) with their Captain awards.  Education Officer, Mike Runge then announced a new season award, The Trevor Lyne (Triple Jump) Award . Trevor’s involvement with the BMLAC commenced during the 1979/80 summer season. In 1983/84, Trevor joined the Centre Executive in the role of Track and Field (Announcer). He held this position for 3 years. In 1985/86, Trevor also took on the role of President (for 3 years), during which time he oversaw the move of BMLAC to Mason’s Lane. Throughout his years with BMLAC, Trevor also assisted the Technical Requirements Officer to mark the track and set up the field events. Trevor resumed his association with BMLAC during the 1997/98 summer season, this time as a coach.

We then commenced the track & field competition for the day.   We apologise for the delay during the hurdle events due to technical problems.  Hayden Thompson (Eagles) set a new Under 16 record in the 800m, clocking a time of 2:21.77mins.

Next week is 'Bring A Friend' day and athletes are invited to bring along a friend to try out little aths.  You must register your friend with your team manager upon arrival.

Although we have had formal presentations at the commencement of the past two weeks, families are reminded that this week competition will commence immediately so ensure you arrive at 8.30am to collect tickets, report in and be ready to compete.

Athletes are reminded that this Saturday in the final day for submitting relay forms.  Relay Coaches will be announced and athletes will be required to meet with coaches to organise training times.

 05/10/14  Little Aths is Back!

The 2014/15 season commenced yesterday and it was very pleasing to see so many new members compete for the first time.  Welcome back to our past members.  We look forward to another successful season for the Bacchus Marsh Little Athletics Centre.

Thank you to all the parents who assisted with officiating to ensure our events ran smoothly.  At least 50 helpers are required each week and parents are expected to assist by carrying out a duty. The number of times that this is required varies from Club to Club. Duty may consist of junior age group marshal, event official, recording duty, canteen duty, just to name a few. Most parents enjoy 'officiating’ at an event and there is always a Chief Official to assist you with the education of officiating.

Congratulations to Jarvis Miles (Blues) who set our first record for the season.  Jarvis threw 27.18 metres in the Boys Under 11 Discus.  After a very successful 2013/14 season, all looks very promising for another great year Jarvis, keep up the great work!

Next Saturday will be our official opening with invited guests in attendance and the announcement of our new Centre Captains.

Registrations continue to be taken via the online portal HERE or at our Centre meets, although families are reminded to arrive early so the online process can take place and athletes are ready to compete.
