Country @ Myrniong
The Centre held
their weekly cross country meet at Myrniong Reserve on
Saturday morning. The athletes wound their way around
the reserve grounds prior to heading out along Shuter
Street. Runners then turned into Blackwood Street to
tackle the uphill before turning and heading north along the
gravel road. Athletes then reached the turning point
before once again tackling a long gruelling uphill climb
before re-entering the reserve and winding their way back to
the finish line. Not only did our athletes contest
sharp turns and an uphill course they also battled the
strong winds, which made for tough competition this week.
Next week our
athletes will travel to Benalla for the long weekend and
participate in the Benalla Open Day on Sunday at Reef Hill
Reserve. BMLAC will be attempting to retain the
Benalla perpetual trophy which they have won for the past 11

Cross Country Open Day
Bacchus Marsh will be once again
participating in the Benalla Cross Country Open Day over the
June long weekend. This has always been the highlight
on our Cross Country calendar. Events are also
available for adults - the kids love seeing mum and dad run,
and every point counts towards the Benalla Perpetual Trophy.
Saturday we travel up to Benalla and stay at
Benalla Leisure Park. Those
who rebooked cabins from last year must confirm their
booking asap or book your cabin now (Ph 5762 3434). Saturday
evening we all come together in the camp kitchen where our
speciality spaghetti bolognaise pasta fix will be provided
for the athletes; parents can cook on the BBQ's provided.
On Sunday morning we convoy out the Reef Hills Reserve for
the Open Day. On Sunday evening we all gather again in
the camp kitchen for a fun social evening, while kids enjoy
the freedom of the park or a video night. Some families
choose to use the BBQs for tea or order in pizzas, takeaway
etc. Monday morning the Park will provide a pancake
breakfast, prior to our departure.

Junior Development Squad (JDS)
- U12-16 Athletes Only
Junior Development Squad (JDS) gives U12 – U16 athletes an
opportunity to gain new skills and improve technical
competencies through participation in coaching and training
sessions with some of Victoria’s leading coaches. Training
with other keen and enthusiastic squad members is both fun
and motivational and helps develop new friendships based on
an enjoyment of athletics. The emphasis on learning new
athletic skills and improving existing ones is in a friendly
and supportive environment.
To join JDS, athletes must achieve the qualifying standard
in their current age group of the season. Athletes must
achieve one standard on two separate occasions or two
different standards, once. This ensures that the
performances show a consistency and not just a once off.
Each year the standards are reviewed to ensure athletes have
an opportunity to qualify. The 2015 - 2016 season JDS
standards are now available from the link below. The
registration portal will be late June/early July for
registration to the 2015 - 2016 JDS.
