 27/06/16   Junior Development Squad (JDS)

The Junior Development Squad (JDS) gives U12 – U15 athletes an opportunity to gain new skills and improve technical competencies through participation in coaching and training sessions with some of Victoria’s leading coaches. Training with other keen and enthusiastic squad members is both fun and motivational and helps develop new friendships based on an enjoyment of athletics. The emphasis on learning new athletic skills and improving existing ones is in a friendly and supportive environment.

To join JDS, athletes must achieve the qualifying standard in their current age group of the season. Athletes must achieve one standard on two separate occasions or two different standards, once. This ensures that the performances show a consistency and not just a once off.

The JDS information pack contains the calendar, qualifying criteria and standards.  Once you have read the information pack (via link below) and checked that you have qualified, you can register. The registration portal is live and can be accessed HERE.

 25/06/16   Region Cross Country Championships

Congratulations to all athletes who represented the Centre at the Western Metro Region Cross Country Championships today at Geelong Baptist College, Lovely Banks.  After an extremely cold start to the day, the sun began to shine by mid morning, although temperatures were still quite chilly.  The rain during the week made the course quite heavy underfoot and after a few races the start line and occasional hill became a little slippery.  Riley Dart was our only medallist for the day, finishing in second place and claiming the silver medal in the Boys Under 15 3000 metres event.

 19/06/16   Cross Country @ Greendale

This week's Cross Country home run was held at Egan's Reserve, Greendale.  Although the course is flat the many sharp turns did not allow for fast running.  The continuous drizzling rain also made the course quite slippery, and the strong cool winds were not ideal for running either.  However, the athletes all toughed it out, with some great competition had in all races.

Next week the following Bacchus Marsh athletes will represent the Centre at the Region Cross Country Championships to be held at Baptist College, Lovely Banks - Kirsty Bresnan, Elise Cook, Riley Dart, Tyrah Doyle, Xavier Goodman, William Lalor, Memphis Menz, Phoenix Menz, Evana Miesen, Solomon Miesen, Isaac Nixon, Kira Watts and Mitchell Wells.

12/06/16   Benalla Cross Country Open Day

Congratulations to all BMLAC athletes and parents who competed at the Benalla Cross Country Open Day today and contributed to the success of our Centre winning the Benalla perpetual trophy.

Bacchus Marsh won a total of 16 medals - 3 Gold, 8 Silver & 5 Bronze.

Gold Medallists - Lyla Mardesic, Mackenzie Estlick, Danielle Ide

Silver Medallists - Kalan Kucera, Nicholas Ide, Mitchell Wells, Kira Watts, Tamara Henry, Kirsty Bresnan, Riley Dart, Zoe Wells

Bronze Medallists - Phoenix Dart, Sarah Burton, Keira Bresnan, Joshua Watts, Ilona Kucera.

Bacchus Marsh families travelled up the Hume Highway on Saturday morning to Benalla.  Accommodation for the weekend was at Benalla Leisure Park.  Athletes fuelled themselves with a pasta night in preparation for their Sunday races.  All families headed out to the course at Reef Hills Reserve, while several families made the early morning start from Bacchus Marsh and met at the Reserve.

Although the early morning was quite chilly, the sun broke through and the conditions were perfect for running.

After walking the course, races commenced at 10.30am.  Bacchus Marsh were well represented in all races and the kids performed exceptionally well.

At the conclusion of all races, Centres came together for presentations.  The awarding of the Benalla perpetual trophy was a close finish with Benalla finishing 3rd, Knox 2nd and a narrow win to the Bacchus Marsh Centre.  Well done to all competitors and supporters for a fantastic day.

After presentations families headed back to Benalla Leisure Park for some down time before enjoying a well earned dinner followed by some games for the kids.

Another most enjoyable weekend away for the Centre.

28/05/16   Cross Country @ Rupert Vance Moon Reserve

This week's Cross Country meet was held at our new venue, Rupert Vance Moon Reserve in the Avenue.  Athletes took advantage of a flat course to record some pretty fast times.  Races took place on the gravel paths around the Reserve and along the Lerderderg River.

Next week BMLAC families will be travelling up the Hume Highway to participate in the Benalla Cross Country Open Day.  This event is now a permanent meet on the Centre calendar.  Whilst a majority of our athletes will be competing, many parents will also take part in the adult races, endeavouring to assist the Centre in winning back the Benalla Perpetual Trophy.

Athletes are reminded that early bird entries close this Wednesday for the Region Cross Country Championships to be held on Saturday 25th June at Geelong Baptist College, Lovely Banks.  This event is only available to Under 9-15 athletes.

 28/05/16   Cross Country @ Myrniong

This week's Cross Country meet was held at Myrniong Recreation Reserve.  The weather was more like what we are used to for Cross Country, with the cool temperatures and drizzling rain causing slippery conditions.  Athletes rugged up and battled it out over the winding and undulating course.

Next week's meet will be held at one of our new venues, the Rupert Vance Moon Reserve.  This venue is located at  the east end of the Avenue of Honour,  just off the Western Highway amongst the market gardens.  The first race will start at 10.30am.

Remember to arrive in plenty of time to allow athletes to familiarize themselves with the course and warm up.  With the colder weather approaching it is extremely important that the athletes have a light job, stretches and some faster strides prior to their race.  Also, athletes should prepare for wet weather by bringing a change of clothes and shoes.
