09/08/14  Cross Country as Masons Lane

The final Cross Country meet for the season, was held today at Masons Lane.  All races were conducted on a handicap format.  Athletes with the fastest time over the season set off last in an endeavour to run down the field.  In fast races a large number of athletes recorded personal best times.  Line honours were awarded to Taylor Tarantino in the Under 6 500m event.  Lachlan Goodman, in the Under 7/8 1000 metres, sprinted home to record the win while Eve Lalor lead from start to finish to claim victory in the Under 9/10 1500metres.  Solomon Miesen ran down majority of the field in the first kilometre to finish well and take honours in the Under 11/12 2000metres.  In the Open Age 3km event, Hayden Thompson ran a controlled race and finished strongly to run down the field and take the win.

Our final meet is always set with a theme and this year it was 'Onsies'.  It was great to see nearly all of our athletes join in the fun, as well as our Cross Country Co-ordinators and a few parents.

 5/07/14  Cross Country @ Greendale

BMLAC Cross Country was held at Egans Reserve, Greendale this week.  Due to the school holidays our numbers where slightly down with only 46 athletes participating this week.  The cool weather and misty rain made for typical cross country conditions, although the athletes did appreciate the flatter course around the reserve.

Due to holidays and the State Manifest/AGM there will be no cross country meet next Saturday.  We will return on Saturday 19th July at Myrniong Reserve.  A sausage sizzle will be provided for all athletes and toddlers.

Congratulations to the 20 athletes who represented the Centre at the Western Metro Region Cross Country Open Day at Brimbank Park, Keilor.  BMLAC won 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze medal for the day.

The overnight strong winds and wet weather had passed over and we were greeted with fine conditions for the Open Day.  Unfortunately, the conditions deteriorated as the day progressed and the winds returned and the temperature dropped immensely.  Thankfully the meet concluded before the forecast rain arrived.

Many thanks to those parents who volunteered to officiate as course marshals and a big thank you to Sam Goodman who officiated as event recorder.

Thankyou so much for your understanding of this requirement.

Week 7 of the Cross Country season saw our athletes return to Lake Dewar, Myrniong.  Another fantastic turn out with several new athletes taking the opportunity to participate in a run through the winding bush trails of the Lodge grounds.  The number of parent helpers continue to increase, and we really appreciate your assistance with the athletes.  Perhaps our mums and dads are in training for next year's Benalla run!

24/05/14  Cross Country @ Bostock Reservoir, Ballan

A glorious day greeted our athletes at Bostock Reservoir, Ballan for this week's cross country meet.  A fantastic turn out, with well over 70 runners competing in distances from 500m to 3000m.  The athletes ran out through the pine plantation, with the older athletes then heading across the spillway and out in the bushlands where they battled up a steep hill before turning and heading back towards the car park area for a tough finishing uphill home run.

We have 33 athletes registered for the Benalla Cross Country Open Day.   If you missed registering with Sam today then please send us an EMAIL now with your child's name and age group.  List as at 24th May HERE.

Next week's Cross Country meet will be held at Myrniong Recreation Reserve at 10.30am.  Directions HERE.   Parents are reminded that you should arrive well before 10.15am to allow your children to get ready for their event.  Athletes should be warming up and stretching prior to racing to avoid injury, especially with the cooler weather ahead of us.  It is not ideal for children to arrive late and marshal at the start line without adequate preparation.

17/05/14  Cross Country at Lady Northcote

Lady Northcote Camp, Rowsley was the venue for this week's Cross Country meet.  The conditions were perfect for a run, and the many athletes who participated enjoyed the mild temperatures, producing some fast times over the various distances.  It was extremely pleasing to see so many parents out having a run around the course and encouraging our athletes - thank you.

Cross Country training will be held this Wednesday at Masons Lane commencing at 5pm.  For training to continue we are asking for parents to please help out.

Benalla Open Day - did you let Sam or Maria know if your child is entering?  If you forgot please make sure you enter them next Saturday.

12/05/14  Benalla Cross Country Open Day

As part of the BMLAC Cross Country calendar, our Centre will once again participating in the Benalla Cross Country Open Day on the Queens Birthday long weekend in June.

As in previous years, we will be staying at the Benalla Leisure Park.  Those BMLAC families who would like to book a cabin at the park must let either Maria or Sam know asap.  There are limited cabins so get in early.

We usually head up to Benalla on the Saturday morning.  Families then gather in the Caravan Park camp kitchen for an early dinner. Spaghetti bolognaise will be cooked for the athletes while parents utilise the BBQ facilities for their meals.  An early night is had prior to convoying out the Reef Hills Reserve on the Sunday morning for the Open Day.  A reminder that adults events are held over 1500m or 3000m.  The kids loving seeing mum, dad, older brother/sisters running.  Your participation counts towards points for the overall Perpetual Trophy which BMLAC are aiming to win for the 10th consecutive year.  Please let Maria or Sam know within the next two weeks who will be entering from your family.

On Sunday night we all gather again in the kitchen area, with most families once again utilising the BBQ or opting for take away.  The remainder of the evening is a great social night for the adults and also the children.  Prior to departure on the Monday, all guests are provided with complimentary pancakes in the camp kitchen for breakfast.

10/05/14  Cross Country at Lake Dewar

This week's Cross Country meet was held at Lake Dewar, Myrniong.   One of our favourite venues, the heavy overnight rain made for a slippery course, although the athletes still enjoyed the varying terrain as they weaved through the bushlands and along the winding tracks.  This week's meet clashed with footy/netball but our attendance was still pleasing with over 50 athletes participating.  It was great to see so many mums out having a run and assisting our athletes around the course (enjoy your rest day on Sunday mums).

Next week's meet will be held at Lady Northcote Camp, Rowsley. Directions HERE
