Final Cross Country Run & Presentations - Saturday 22nd August at Masons Lane

Next Cross County meet to be held at Bostock Reservoir

1/08/15  Cross Country Qualification for Awards as at 1 August .

A list of updated qualifications for Cross Country awards as at today are available HERE.  Awards will be presented at the end of our final Cross Country meet on Saturday 22 August at Masons Lane.

 1/08/15  Cross Country @ Greendale .

This week's Cross Country meet was held at Egan's Reserve, Greendale.  This was our first race at this venue this season.  Although a relatively flat course, the continual change of directions through the winding course of the reserve didn't allow for many fast times to be recorded.  The overnight and early morning showers also made it slippery underfoot but thankfully the showers had blown over by the time races were due to commence.   At the conclusion of the meet, several families headed over to the Greendale Hotel and enjoyed an early lunch and a warm in front of the open fires.

Next week's Cross Country meet will see us return to Bostock Reservoir, Ballan.  The following week, August 15 there will be no home run.  The season will then conclude on August 22 at Masons Lane, where we will conduct a handicap meet.  The theme of this meet will be 'Crazy Socks', where all athletes are encouraged to wear a pair of crazy socks to run in.  The season presentations will then be conducted at the conclusion of all races.  Please bring along a plate of food to share following our presentations.

23/07/15  State Cross Country Championships .

The 2015 Victorian Little Athletics Cross Country Championships were held at Westerfolds Park, Templestowe today.  Unfortunately Bacchus Marsh did not have great numbers competing at this year's Championships, but those athletes that did run, represented our Centre extremely well and should be very proud of their results.

The course was very tough for our junior athletes, with a steep hill mid race and a long climb to the finish line.  The intermediate athletes started off with a fast downhill prior to heading out into the bushlands to tackle the undulating winding trails before attacking the uphill finish.  By the time the senior athletes set off, the start area had become a little heavy underfoot.  Runners then wound their way around a 2 lap course, which in parts was a little slippery, but the athletes dug deep and produced some great results with many hard fought finishes.

 18/07/15  Cross Country Open Day Wrap-Up .

Congratulations to all athletes who participated in the Bacchus Marsh Little Athletics Centre Cross Country Open Day today at Bullengarook Reserve.

The wet conditions during the week made the start/finish area quite slippery and heavy, with large amounts of surface water making it tough for the competitors.  Once athletes left the oval area and headed into the bush they were able to settle into their race mode.  Some close races were contested over distances varying from 500m for the Under 6 athletes, up to 3000m for the senior runners.

At the conclusion of all events, medals were presented to the first 3 placegetters while all other competitors were presented with participation certificates.

Athletes were represented from the following Centres: Kyneton, Melton City, Seaford, Sunbury and Bacchus Marsh. The BMLAC Perpetual Trophy was awarded to the Kyneton Little Athletics Centre.

Thank you to those who helped set-up including marking of the course.  Many thanks to all the rabbits, turtles, recorders, canteen helpers, starters, course marshals, first aid officers, raffle ticket sellers, Crank Coffee and raffle donors (Salvatore Butchers, Floralevent, Dry Aged Meat Company, Natasha Hurst Massage, Downes Family).  A special thanks to Sam Goodman, who co-ordinated our Open Day and spent many voluntary hours ensuring the day ran so smoothly.  Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the day.

This will have no impact on qualification or points as these always cut off the week prior to the fun run each year.  Updated Cross Country Calendar HERE.

20/06/15  Western Metro Region Cross Country Open Day  .

26 Bacchus Marsh athletes competed in the Western Metro Region Cross Country Open Day held at Brimbank Park on Saturday morning.  A cool overcast morning greeted our athletes.  The course was relatively flat for the majority of the race, with only one incline approximately 300m  from the start, creating some very fast races.   Bacchus Marsh claimed 7 medals for the meet.  Hayden Thompson (Under 16), Mikaela Gielis (Under 16) and Dominic Miesen (Under 15) all won their age groups, while brothers Leo Nixon (Under 8) and Isaac Nixon (Under 10) placed 2nd to take silver, as did Danielle Ide (Under 9) after a very strong race.  Evana Miesen finished in third place in the Under 14's to win a bronze medal.

Many thanks to our Cross Country team manager Sam Goodman, who ensured we were all set ready to race. Thank you also to those parents who volunteered as course marshalls - Meaghan Nixon, Chris Brown & Brendan Thompson.  Great support from everyone for the Marsh kids too - thank you!

 30/05/15  Cross Country @ Myrniong .

The Centre held their weekly cross country meet at Myrniong Reserve on Saturday morning.  The athletes wound their way around the reserve grounds prior to heading out along Shuter Street.  Runners then turned into Blackwood Street to tackle the uphill before turning and heading north along the gravel road.  Athletes then reached the turning point before once again tackling a long gruelling uphill climb before re-entering the reserve and winding their way back to the finish line.  Not only did our athletes contest sharp turns and an uphill course they also battled the strong winds, which made for tough competition this week.

Next week our athletes will travel to Benalla for the long weekend and participate in the Benalla Open Day on Sunday at Reef Hill Reserve.  BMLAC will be attempting to retain the Benalla perpetual trophy which they have won for the past 11 years.

Athletes are still encouraged to enter Benalla Open Day HERE.
