On Saturday, the Bacchus Marsh Centre held the Official Opening of the 2018/19 track & field season. President, Maria Downes extended a warm welcome to Life Members, Distinguished Service Members and wished all athletes the best for the season. Centre Captains, Kayla Downes and Solomon Miesen were announced and presented with Captain badges and certificates.
Once all the formalities were completed the competition meet got underway. The sun was shining and although a little blustery, this didn’t deter our keen and enthusiastic athletes from producing some fantastic results. Three new Centre records were set for the day. Nelson Banigo bettered his own 100 metres record, stopping the clock in a new record time of 13.82 seconds. Nelson then backed up with another top performance in the Under 10 60m Hurdles claiming his 2nd record for the day, running a time of 10.37 seconds. Kayla Downes set her first Centre record, throwing the Discus 25.13 metres in the Under 16 event.
A big thank you to all those who have officiated at events so far this season. Many of these helpers have been new to the Centre. We thoroughly appreciate everyone putting their hand up to ensure the smooth running of our weekly meets. Special thanks to Matt Cook who volunteered on the BBQ this week. Thank you also to Amanda McLean who has ensured our canteen remains open for everyone to utilise. We are still looking for an official Canteen Manager though to join our Committee. This week we welcomed Tony Attard to the Committee. Tony has taken on the role of Sponsorship and Fundraising.
Relay Expression of Interest Forms are due this Saturday to your Team Manager. We encourage all Under 9-16 athletes to join the BMLAC Relay Squad. This is a great opportunity to run as part of a team. The kids love the social environment of relays and we hope to enter many teams into the upcoming Relay Championships in Melton on November 17.
