The Western Metro Region Cross Country Championships were held on Saturday at Lake Dewar, Myrniong.  Athletes from the following Centres were well represented:  Altona, Bacchus Marsh, Brimbank, Corio, Geelong, Gisborne, Melton City, South Melbourne, Werribee and Williamstown.  These Championships were the qualifying event for the State Championships to be held on July 28.

15 athletes represented the Bacchus Marsh Centre.  Solomon Miesen won a Silver medal in the Under 15 3km event.  After completing the first loop of the 1500m course, Solly sat in 4th position but was looking comfortable.  In the later stages of the race, Solly picked off his competitors one by one and with a strong finish was able to slip into 2nd position claiming a spot of the podium.

Thank you to everyone who ensured this was a successful event for the Region and also the Bacchus Marsh Centre as hosts.  Thank you to Maria Downes and Leon Whitehand who ran the BBQ and to Rav and Cathy Sadhai for running the Canteen.  Rav was also our 1st aid officer for the day.  Thank you those parents who completed duty as course marshals.  A big thank you to Paul Miesen and Sam Stewart who were turtles/hares for all the races. And a final thank you to our Team Manager, Karen Bresnan who ensured all athletes were marshaled for events on time.
