Over the weekend 35 athletes represented the Bacchus Marsh Little Athletics Centre at the 2019 Western Metro Region Track & Field Carnival held at the Victoria University Athletics Track, Werribee.

Bacchus Marsh Centre had an extremely successful weekend winning 13 Gold, 9 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.

Nelson Banigo won 4 Gold medals on the track, claiming victory in the Under 10 70 metres, 100 metres, 200 metres and 60 metre Hurdles.  Matai Haunga was impressive in his throwing events, connivingly winning the Under 12 Discus and Shot Put.  Solomon Miesen was successful over the longer distances, winning Gold medals in both the Under 16 800 and 1500 metres.  Eliza Schembri won the Under 16 100 metres and Long Jump and placed 2nd in the Discus and Javelin.  Kayla Downes was rewarded in her preferred throwing events, winning the Under 16 Shot Put and Discus and finishing 3rd in the Javelin.  Evie Ducas showed her talent in the High Jump clearing 1.30 metres to win the Under 11 Gold medal while Daphne Dillon placed 2nd to claim the Silver.  Alex Lloyd had a close competition in the Under 11 High Jump finishing in 2nd place and equalling his PB, with a jump of 1.38 metres.  Under 11 athlete, Luatangi Haunga won 2 Silver medals for the weekend, placing 2nd in Shot Put and Discus.  Bridie Shanahan threw 29.81 metres in the Under 13 Discus, winning a Silver medal.  Nicholas Ide also won a Silver medal in the Under 10 60 metres hurdles, with an impressive display of hurdling skills.  In their first Regional competition, Under 9 athletes Deegan Doyle and Tanae Grero were both very excited to win Bronze medals, Deegan in the High Jump and Tanae in the Shot Put while one of our older athletes Oliver Cukavac, also in his first Region competition, won a Bronze medal in the Under 16 100 metres Hurdles.

All athletes should be extremely proud of their achievements over the weekend, you were amazing, and we congratulate you all.  Well done!

Congratulations to Nelson Banigo, Matai Haunga, Solomon Miesen, Evie Ducas, Kayla Downes and Eliza Schembri who have qualified for the State Championships to be held on March 16 & 17 after winning their events.  Progressions will be available later in the week.
