The 2019 Little Athletics Victoria Relay Championships were held at Casey Fields Athletics, Cranbourne on Saturday.
After qualifying from the Region Championships held in mid-November, Bacchus Marsh Centre was represented by 10 teams at the State Championships.
The morning commenced with the 4x200m timed finals. First up on the track were our Under 14 Girls. The girls all ran strongly and placed 4th in their heat, 12th overall. The Under 14 Boys followed our girls and all runners put in a solid performance to finish 5th, 13th overall. The Under 15 Boys were up next and after a late progression to State the boys should be proud of their 7th placed result, 15th overall. The final 4x200m event for the Marsh was our Under 10 Mixed team. The mixed races were straight finals and after winning their event at Region these kids had earnt themselves a final berth at State. The team of Tanae Grero, Charlie Del Mastro, Patrick Lovett and Nicholas Mai all performed extremely well up against the State’s best and finished the race off in 6th position. Well done team.
The Mixed 4x100m heats were conducted prior to the lunch break. The Under 9 team were up first and another great performance saw our team place 3rd and a progression to the final, to be held after the lunch break. The Under 10 team also produced an outstanding race placing 3rd but narrowly missing a finals berth.
After lunch the Under 9 Boys took to the track in the 4x100m heats. In their first State Championship the boys should be proud of their 5th place. The Under 14 Boys finished strongly to place 4th. The Under 9 Mixed team of Myah Estlick, Oliver Aspinall, Mathilde Grant and Elliot Banigo lined up for the final and after a very competitive race our kids finished 7th. Be very proud of your achievement kids – 7th in the State is a great effort. The Under 14 Mixed team, ranked 4th after their heat, went into their final a little nervous but confident and they did not disappoint. A magnificent start from Danielle Ide had our team in the mix. A determined performance from Emma Smith in the 2nd leg, saw the Marsh placed mid-way in the field going into the 3rd changeover. Lincoln Braszell was outstanding off the bend as he closed in on his opponents. A slick change to final runner Mitchell Gardiner had our team in contention. Mitchell powered down the straight as he flew past Albury, Wangaratta and finally Corio to slip into 3rd and cross the line to secure the team a Bronze State medal. Congratulations to all runners and coaches Karen Lloyd and Jorge Ide. The day concluded for the Marsh with the Under 15 final. On the outside lane, Caitlin Mai got off to a good start and passed to Tamara Henry who ran the back straight and passed to Nate Sadhai for the 3rd leg. Final runner Ryan Lister powered down the front straight to cross the finish line in 6th place ahead of Shepparton and Werribee. Well done team on a great performance.
