16 athletes represented the Bacchus Marsh Little Athletics Centre over the weekend at the State Track & Field Championships held at Lakeside Stadium. Bacchus Marsh claimed 3 Silver medals at the Championships.
This year’s format saw all races run over timed finals.
On Day 1 of competition Elliot Banigo claimed our first medal for the Championships. Elliot ran a controlled race in the Under 10 70 metres to cross the line in first place and finish 2nd overall. Alex Lloyd produced another consistent performance at Championship level winning his 4th consecutive State Medal, this year taking out the Silver medal with a PB leap of 1.60m in the Boys Under 13 High Jump.
Day 2 of competition saw our only medal winner Nicholas Ide dip on the finish line to claim the silver medal in the Boys Under 12 80 metre hurdles. Nick continued to improve each hurdles race leading up to States and was primed to be rewarded, winning his first individual state medal.
The following athletes recorded top 8 performances – Bridie Shanahan (Discus), Tamara Henry (High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump), Harrison Lovett (70m, High Jump), Nelson Banigo (200m), Matthew Elefterescu (Discus, Shot Put), Sergio Arrivillaga (Shot Put), Mitchell Gardiner (High Jump), Hayden Lloyd (Triple Jump)
Whilst some of our athletes competed in their first State Championships, some competed in their last. Many athletes recorded PB’s and for those who didn’t, you should still be extremely proud of your achievements; to qualify for State is a major achievement – well done to all.
A big thank you to all parents who filled their duty requirements over the weekend and a massive thank you to all those who supported our athletes.
