Wow, what an evening is was as we celebrated our 50th Season.
The evening kicked off with our twilight meet at 4pm. Conditions were very blustery, but our athletes took the advantage of a strong tail wind, recording many PB’s in the 100m events. William Chamberlain (Blues) flew down the straight, in the first race of the day, running a sensational time of 18.60 seconds. William broke the Under 6 record which had previously stood for 21 years. In the Shot Put pit 2 new Centre records were set. Sione Haunga (Eagles) broke the Under 7 record throwing a new record distance of 7.34 metres while Kaleb Westerlaken (Blues) broke the Under 14 record with a new distance of 10.41 metres. Well done boys.
279 PB’s were recorded for the modified program. This week the following athletes recorded PB’s in all their events (4PB’s) – Solomon Miesen, Oliver & Felix Cukavac, Luatangi & Matai Haunga, Emma Smith, Nate Sadhai, Billie Del Mastro, Elliot Banigo and Taylor Kelly.
Once competition had concluded everyone got into the party mood as we celebrated our special event – 50 Years of Little Athletics in Bacchus Marsh.
We were entertained throughout the evening by a local band ‘You’ve Seen Worse’. Thank you to Rav Sadhai for organising the band for us and providing exceptional entertainment for everyone. The kids loved the many free activities provided by Aaron Amusements. The Jumping Castle and Sumo Wrestling were a great hit while many enjoyed the Giant Jenga and Giant Connect 4 and lots of laughs were heard from the Giant Twister. The 3-legged races, egg and spoon races, sack races were not only a fun challenge for the kids but the parents and a few of the Committee took on the challenge too. All athletes were awarded with chocolates at the end of each race. Michelle’s Face Painting was also a free offer to the kids, and this proved quite popular too.

Centre Captains, Solomon Miesen and Kayla Downes talked about their experience at BMLAC followed by current President, Maria Downes who thanked all those who had contributed to the success of the evening. Little Athletics Victoria Life Governors, June Trask and Carolyn Sanderson were then called on to cut the 50th birthday cake. We all then witnessed a magnificent fireworks display provided by Airwize Pyrotechnic Displays; and what an amazing finale it was.
Thank you to everyone who was a part of this memorable occasion.
