Week 2 of the Cross Country season saw athletes compete at Lake Dewar Discovery Camp, Myrniong.
An eerie setting welcomed runners, with low cloud coverage, seeing athletes navigating their way through the thick fog of the camp grounds.
Another fantastic turn out, as 96 athletes competed over distances ranging from 500 to 3000 metres.
The Under 7/8 athletes were first to race this week, with 37 athletes tackling the 1km course. A bunched start line saw athletes jostle for an early lead. Hayden Tung produced a well-executed race, claiming the win for Bacchus Marsh. Millicent Johansen also ran a superb race, as she was declared the winner for the girls. Amira Rickerby, Meeka Booth and Victoria Hannan all recorded PB’s, with Meeka taking almost 30 seconds off last week’s time.
Under 9/10 athletes raced over 1.5km. Harry Johansen was a clear winner for the Under 10 boys, while Emilia Ibrahim recorded another victory for the girls. Hunter Robinson and Harbin Kaur Aujla were the first Under 9 athletes home. Lachlan Simcocks and Harbin kaur Aujla were rewarded with PB results.
The Under 6’s completed a 500m loop through the bush before returning along the camp oval to a downhill finish. Lenni-Rose Missen was first home for the Marsh while Angad Singh Aujla was first home for the boys, running a PB time of 2:44.24 mins.
The Open Age athletes completed 3 laps of the 1km course. Under 15 athlete Nicholas Ibrahim kept in touch with the leading Melton athlete until the final stages, claiming the win for our Centre, while Under 13 athlete Elise Holland was the first girl across the finish line.
The Under 11 & 12 athletes contested the 2km event. Joshua Askew and Mitchell Tung battled it out across the entire race, with a sprint finish seeing Josh take 1st place and Mitch, a narrow 2 seconds behind, in 2nd place.
A massive thank you to everyone who supported the Centre by either purchasing food from the BBQ or a BMLAC beanie.
Thank you once again to our course marshalls, rabbits and officials. It is great to see so many people willing to help out this season, ensuring our meets run so efficiently.
From next week all athletes must be wearing their Commonwealth Bank registration tags to receive their results. A reminder this is a Little Athletics Victoria requirement and must be adhered to.
Next week’s Cross Country meet will be held at Bullengarook Reserve.
Directions: Follow the Gisborne/Bacchus Marsh Rd to Bullengarook (23kms from Darley roundabout). Turn right just after the Bullengarook Fire Station and follow the gravel road around the oval to the pavilion car park.
