On Saturday morning athletes from the Bacchus Marsh, Melton City and Gisborne Centres travelled up the Western Highway to Ballan to participate in Cross Country at the Bostock Reservoir.
All races commenced from the carpark with a fast down hill start before heading down along the banks of the reservoir prior to turning left and running out into the midst of the pine plantations, along a gravel fire track. Each age group was directed at various turning points before making the return run home which comprised of a long uphill haul to the finish line.
The Under 6 athletes competed over 500m. Mason Wapshott, representing the Melton Centre, recorded another win in a time of 2:34.15mins. Archie Clarke was next home with Melton’s Divgeet Kaur Mann taking out 3rd position.
The 1km event was contested by the Under 7 and 8 athletes. Angus Norman finished strongly to claim victory with Anni Clarke a mere 4 seconds behind in 2nd place while Melton athlete, Harry Wark finished 3rd overall, 1st Under 7 athlete.
Lenny Closter was the clear winner in the combined Under 9/10 1500m event. While Ezekiel Horne and Balreet Kaurr Mann (Melton) battled it out over the final 100m with Zeke pipping Balreet on the line for the minor placings. Special mention to Roman Deagan who was the only athlete to record a personal best result this week.
Under 12 athlete Riley Rogers continues his winning form claiming another victory in the Under 11/12 2km event. Gisborne athlete Elijah Marshall was 2nd overall, 1st Under 11 athlete. Melton’s Mataya Leetham was the first girl home with Austin Shea and Lily Norman in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
The Open age athletes competed over the 3km distance. The return this week of Matthew Elefterescu saw him notch up another win for the season while Oliver Carr ensured he remained in touch with Matthew, to record an outstanding performance of 13:48.55 mins. Mackenzie Estlick, Emma Stewart and Anna Seymour all produced outstanding runs, finishing in the top 3 places respectively for the girls.
Next Saturday we will return to Myrniong Reserve for our weekly competition. A sausage sizzle will be provided to all athletes. Lollies will also be on sale.
Athletes already registered for last summer season are welcome to come and have a run next Saturday with there being no BFL junior football/netball scheduled. First race at 10.30am. Arrive earlier to walk the course and warm-up.
