Who can participate in Little Athletics?

Children between the ages of five (5) and sixteen (16) years can register. Parents, grandparents and friends can also be involved by helping with the various events.

At what time of year does Little Athletics take place?

The Track & Field season generally runs from October through to mid/late March. Cross-country is conducted during the winter months taking place during April to mid August.

Where will my child be participating?

Centre meets are generally held on Saturday morning at Mason’s Lane Reserve, Bacchus Marsh commencing at 8.30am and concluding at approximately 12 noon.  Some twilight meets are held on Friday nights commencing at 5pm.

Cross Country is held on Saturday mornings throughout the Moorabool Shire. 

Athletes will also have the opportunity of representing their Centre at Open Days, Region & State Championships.

What events are offered?
Events offered at BMLAC are dependent on the athlete’s age and the Centre program for that week.

  • Sprints (70m, 100m, 200m, 400m),
  • Distance Running  (800m, 1500m)
  • Hurdles (60m, 90m, 100m, 200m, 300m)
  • Long Jump
  • Triple Jump
  • High Jump
  • Shot Put
  • Discus
  • Javelin/Turbo Javelin

What level of ability do children have to be to join?
Our emphasis is on Family, Fun & Fitness. Children can join with any level of skill or fitness. Children are given plenty of encouragement to achieve personal bests (PB’s).

How much does Little Athletics cost?
Registration fees for 2023/24

  • $140 first child
  • $140 second child
  • $120 third child
  • $90 fourth & subsequent child

How do I register my child?
If your child would like to take part in Little Athletics, you need to register them via the online portal on the Little Athletics Victoria website.  Athletes will be required to provide proof of age – birth certificate or passport etc. to the Centre Registrar to finalise registration.

What age group will my child be in?
Age groups are determined by the year and month of birth.  Age groups are taken at 31 December.  Age Group calculator HERE.

Can my child try Little Athletics before joining?
Yes, BMLAC allows new athletes up to two (2) weeks free trial period before having to commit to registering for the season.
You just need to register them via the membership portal HERE, selecting join new member, then select trail athlete. You will receive an email with a trail tag which you need to print out for your child to wear when competing.

Which of the 4 Clubs at BMLAC can I join?

BMLAC have 4 Clubs available – Blues, Boomerangs, Dolphins and Eagles.  New athletes are equally distributed to clubs unless they have a preference of which club they would like to join.

What is expected of parents?
Because Little Athletics is a totally voluntary organisation, we cannot operate without the assistance of parents each week in fulfilling the many and varied duties required. These include officiating at an event; managing an age group; recording results; working in the canteen; to name just a few.  Additional assistance is always required on the Centre committees and all parents are encouraged to become involved. Little Athletics is one of the few sports where parents can become fully involved in their child’s sporting interests.

What shoes should I buy my child?
Footwear must be worn in all events, by all competing members. Only athletes in Under 11-17 are permitted to wear spikes.

Do children need to wear a uniform?
Yes; all registered athletes must wear a Club Polo Shirt and plain black shorts when competing in Little Athletics competitions.  Uniforms may be purchased from the office on registration day or at any centre meet.  When representing the Centre athletes are required to wear a BMLAC singlet and plain black shorts.

Will my child be taught the correct technique or have access to coaching?
BMLAC conducts training sessions throughout the season.  Training days will be held on Thursday’s commencing at 4.30pm.

Does my child have the opportunity to win any medals/trophies?
BMLAC run award schemes to encourage athletes to “BE THEIR BEST”.

All athlete’s performances are recorded in each event, every week.  Results are available via the ResultsHQ online portal HERE.

Trophies, medals and certificates are awarded at the conclusion of the season at our Championships Day.
